Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Method
- Ethical approval:
- not applicable
- Details on study design:
- Personal monitoring was conducted for MVE between the years of 1982 and 2004 in the MVE manufacturing unit in South Charleston, WV and in the Specialty Products unit in Taft, LA. The objective was to evaluate potential exposures during various shifts and tasks for a variety of similar exposure groups.
- Exposure assessment:
- measured
- Details on exposure:
- Monitoring was performed for groups assessed to have potential for exposure to MVE for the purpose of applying exposure controls, assigning personal protective equipment, and verification of compliance with the company internal exposure guidelines.
Over the 22-year period, the exposure groups with potential for exposure consistently included outside and inside operators, one "weigh operator", maintenance personnel, Union rail tank car operators, and laboratory personnel.
Results and discussion
- Results:
- Results for all job assignments and tasks ranged from 0.001 ppm to 2.1 ppm, and the geometric mean for all exposures is 0.26 ppm (standard deviation 5.95 ppm), and the 95% upper confidence limit is 1.34 ppm.
Area emission monitoring results, although not indicative of personal exposure, were non-detected at the limit of quantitation (0.37-0.02 ppm).
