Upon contact with water, the material immediately decomposes to Lithium hydroxide, hydrogen and trialkylboran. Lithium hydroxide is corrosive, the Triylkylboran is pyrophoric and hydrogen is flammable. Based on the formation of lithium hydroxide, the substance is classified as category 1A for skin irritation, H314 according to Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP) and as C, Corrosive, R35 according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD).
