Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Following an analogue read-across approach the auto-ignition temperature of the test item was determined to be 454 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
385 °C

Additional information

The test item is a mixture of methanol and methyl acetate. Because values for the auto-ignition temperature of the single components are available but not for the mixture, an analogue read-across approach was used.

The auto-ignition temperature of methanol was determined to be 464 °C.

The auto-ignition temperature of methyl acetate is reported with 454 °C.

Both values are taken from peer reviewed handbooks and so can be considered as reliable. Based on an analogue read-across approach the lowest auto-ignition temperature of the two components was regarded as worst case. Consequently, an auto-ignition temperature of 454 °C was chosen as key value for further chemical safety assessment purposes.
