The aquatic toxicity of the trans isomer of dimethyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate (DMCD) was determined for fathead minnows, Pimephales promelas, and Daphnia magna in tests conducted according to EPA 660/3-75-009, Methods for acute toxicity tests with fish, macroinvertebrates and amphibians and EPA 600/4-85/013, Methods for measuring the acute toxicity of effluents to freshwater and marine organisms, 3rd ed. The test was conducted using five nominal concentrations of trans-DMCD plus a dilution water control. Two replicate test vessels per treatment level were used, with each replicate holding 10 test organisms (n = 20/treatment level). In the 96 -hour fish study the LC50 was calculated to be 23 mg/L. In the 48 -hour Daphnia magna study the NOEC was ≥ 100 mg/L, the highest concentration tested. Long-term toxicity studies in fish and daphnia are not available. The inhibition of growth of the alga, Selenastrum capricomutum, was determined in a 72-hour limit test (OECD 201) of the mixed isomers of dimethyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate. In that study the EbC50 (biomass) value was estimated to be >124.6 mg/L. The ErC50 (growth rate) value was estimated to be >124.6 mg/L. The 72-hour NOEC for both biomass and growth rate value was estimated to be 124.6 mg/L. The toxicity to microorganisms was determined in an OECD 209 Activated Sludge Respiration Inhibition study using the trans isomer of

dimethyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate. A NOEC of 1000 mg/L, the highest concentration tested, was determined. A NOEC of 1000 mg/L, the highest concentration tested, was determined.
