Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
10 Jul 2012
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
not specified

The test item was formed into a particle train. A hot flame from a gas burner with a diameter of about 6 mm is used to ignite the pile at one end. In the preliminary screening test the substance does not ignite by a hot flame from a gas burner. The test item just melts.

According to the definition in the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008EEC the test item Oleyl Palmitamide CAS-No. 16260-09-6 is not considered as flammable.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

Flammability (solid): Non-flammable on ignition

Non-pyrophoric

Not flammable on contact with water

Not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability of the substance was determined according to EU Method A.10. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected. Based on the fact that the substance is a solid with the melting point below 160 °C, it is not self-heating.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: The substance is neither combustible, nor considered to be classified as pyrophoric, emitting gases on contact with water, or self-heating.
