Description of key information
Additional information
No experimental data are available for RAV 7MC (EC700 -742 -1). A read-across approach is intended to the substance RAV 7AT (diallyl 2,2'-oxydiethyl dicarbonate; CAS 142-22-3; EC 205-528-7). Furthermore, about 53 % of RAV 7MC (EC 700-742-1) consists of components that can be found in RAV 7NG (EC 700-483-4). About 60 % of RAV 7NG (EC 700-483 -4) in turn consists of components that can be found in the commercial ADC grades known as RAV 7AT, Nouryset 200 and CR39. Merely from comparing the similar production processes of these substances it is apparent that RAV 7AT, RAV 7NG and RAV 7MC are closely related to each other. Finally, it can be assumed that the physical-chemical, environmental toxicological and ecotoxicological properties of RAV 7MC and RAV 7AT will be very similar and as conclusion, the read-across is justified.
Abiotic degradation: hydrolysis
Hydrolysis was tested according to OECD 111 with 'diallyl 2,2'oxydiethyl dicarbonate' (EC 700-483-4), whereby an increasing pH resulted in an increasing hydrolysis rate (Mullee, 2005). At 25 °C a half life of over 1 year was determined, at pH 4 280 days and at pH 9 the half-life corresponds to 68.4 hours, respectively.
Biodegradation
´Diallyl-2,2`-oxydiethyl dicarbonate´ (EC 700-483-4) is considered to be readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. The substance was tested under aerobic conditions at 21 °C according to OECD Guideline 301 D / EU method C.6 for 28 days (van Cinkel and Stroo, 1993). Also the Instituto di Ricerche Biomediche (1994) tested this compound for its biodegradability, reporting 73.2 % degradation after 28 days. The test material did not have a significant inhibitory effect on the bacterial inoculum. Additionally, one valid study result is available regarding biodegradation of in soil (Williams and Heim, 1993). Under sterile as well as under non-sterile conditions in the dark the test substance disappeared completely, therefore it is not possible to characterize the extent of biodegradation in this case.
Bioaccumulation
Neither experiments regarding aquatic nor terrestrial bioaccumulation have to be conducted in accordance with REACH Regulation (EC) 1901/2006, due to the fact that no accumulation in organisms is expected. This can be assumed out of the low substance specific logPow value of 1.54 for ´Diallyl-2,2`-oxydiethyl dicarbonate´ (EC 700-483-4). A prediction was performed with EPIWIN software BCFBAFv3.00 by US-EPA to assess the aquatic bioconcentration factor (BCF) in fish, which was determined as 4.842 L/kg w.w. (Chemservice S.A., 2010). This value reinforces that no bioaccumulation is expected in aquatic biota.
Soil adsorption
Furthermore, the low value of logPow indicates also a low potential for soil adsorption of the test substance. Hence, no experiment has to be conducted for this endpoint in accordance to REACH regulation. For completeness, again the EPIWIN computer tool (software KOCWINv2.00) was used to calculate the coefficient with the utilization of two different models (Chemservice S.A., 2010). The traditional method (based on logPow) reveals a result of 16.9 L/kg and the MCI method 20.69 L/kg. The MCI value can be assessed more seriously.
Henry´s Law Constant
Concerning transport and distribution of ´Diallyl-2,2`-oxydiethyl dicarbonate´ (EC 700-483-4) the Henry´s Law Constant was calculated with the EPIWIN software HENRYWINv3.20, resulting in a value of 1.88 E-002 Pa*m³*mol-1 (Chemservice S.A., 2010).
