Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The adsorption behaviour was determined in a study according to OECD guideline No 121 (HPLC method) and in compliance with GLP criteria.

The study was performed using a HPLC system with a cyanopropyl chemical bound resin on a silica base column. Seven reference substances were selected from the OECD guideline based on the retention time of the test substance. A calibration function was set up using the known log Koc values of the reference substances and the log Koc value of the test substance was calculated from this calibration function.

The chromatogram of the test substance shows eight peaks which can be related to no-longer polymer esters with different chain lengths, impurities and/or degradation products. The log Koc values related to these peaks ranged from 0.687 to 4.451 (equivalent to Koc values of ca. 5 to 28248 L/kg). As the first three peaks had values below the range of the method, the log Koc values of these peaks were determined at (<) 1.5. The highest log Koc values are likely to be attributable to the longer chains of the no-longer polymer molecules whereas the lower Koc values are likely to represent the hydrolysis products. Hydrolysis is considered to break all ester bonds and therefore the initial monomers (adipic acid and 2,2’-oxybisethanol) are expected to be the most common products of hydrolysis. As hydrolysis is expected to occur rapidly, the overall adsorption is not considered to be an important environmental fate path. When the log Koc values of peak 1 -8 are averaged, this results in a log Koc value of 2.6 (corresponding to a Koc of 397 L/kg). This Koc is used for further environmental fate assessment.
