Description of key information

Skin Irritation/Corrosion: the substance is a strong acid (pH ≤ 2.0 in water) and the substance is considered to be skin corrosive

Eye Damage/Irritation: the substance is a strong acid (pH ≤ 2.0 in water) and the substance is considered to to cause irreversible eye damage

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint:
skin corrosion: in vitro / ex vivo
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a strong acid (pH ≤ 2.0) or base (pH ≥ 11.5) and the available information indicates that it should be classified as skin corrosion (Category 1, 1A, 1B or 1C)
other:
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex VII, column 2 section 8.1 the study for skin corrosion/irritation in vitro, does not need to be conducted since the substance is classified as corrosive to the skin and/or the substance is a strong acid (pH ≤ 2.0 in water). The substance is classified under Regulation (EC) 1272/2008: Skin Corrosive: category 1. According to ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment (Chapter R.7a: Endpoint Specific Guidance, R.7.2.2, July 2017) the study does not need to be conducted.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
data waiving: supporting information
Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (corrosive)

Eye irritation

Reference
Endpoint:
eye irritation: in vitro / ex vivo
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is classified as skin corrosion, leading to classification as serious eye damage (Category 1)
