Conclusions:
In conclusion, the water solubility of Phytosphingosine at 20.0 ± 1.0°C was measured to be between 1.4x10^-3 and 3.8x10^-3 g/I, using the column elution method. The geometric mean is 2.6 mg/L.
Executive summary:

The column elution method was used to determine the water solubility of Phytosphingosine and was based on the following guidelines:

OECD guideline for testing of chemicals no. 105: "Water Solubility", Adopted July 27, 1995. EEC Directive 92/69 EEC, Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A.6: "Water solubility". EEC Publication no. L383, December 1992. Several attempts were made to determine the water solubility of Phytosphingosine accurately. The results are shown in the table.

Column  Actual flow rate [ml/h]  Mean [mg/l]  pH
 I     24.0 3.67   8.3
 12.0  3.81  8.3
    II  24.0  1.36

 12.0  3.25  7.0
   24.6  3.22  6.6
 VI  12.0  3.07  7.1

Based on these results it was decided to report water solubility of Phytosphingosine to be between 1.4x10^-3 and 3.8x10^-3 g/1 at 20.0 ± 1.0°C.

Description of key information
