- Details on sampling:
- Sample solutions were prepared in each buffer solution at a nominal concentration of 2.0 g/L. The solutions were maintained at 50.0 +/- 0.5 °C in stoppered glass flasks for a period of 5 days.
The concentration of benzenebutanoic acid, 4-methyl-γ-oxo and 4-ethylmorpholine was monitored as follows:
Benzenebutanoic acid, 4-methyl-γ-oxo:
Samples:
Duplicate aliquots (A and B) of sample solutions were diluted by a factor of 20 with acetonitrile:water (50:50).
Standards:
Duplicate standard solutions were prepared in acetonitrile:water (50:50) at a nominal concentration of 50 mg/l or 100 mg/l.
4-Ethylmorpholine:
Samples:
Duplicate aliquots (A and B) of sample solutions were diluted by a factor of 2 with acetone.
Standards:
Duplicate standard solutions were prepared in acetone:buffer solution (1:1) at a nominal concentration of 1000 mg/l. - Buffers:
- Potassium hydrogen phthalate 0.05 M (pH4 buffer)
Disodium hydrogen orthophosphate 0.04 M, Potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate 0.03 M (pH 7 buffer)
Disodium tetraborate 0.05 M, pH adjusted with hydrochloric acid (pH 9 buffer)
The above solutions were filtered through a 0.22 μm membrane. - Estimation method (if used):
- The half-life at 25 °C was estimated from hydrolysis after 5 days at 50 °C in pH 4, 7 and 9 buffer solutions.
