- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- weight of evidence
- Study period:
- 1983-07-08
- Reliability:
- 4 (not assignable)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- documentation insufficient for assessment
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- other: VDI recommendation 2263 part 1
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Flammability according to Lütolf, description of ignition, spreading and quenching of a fire.
- Parameters analysed / observed: Duration of ignition, duration until quenching of fire. - GLP compliance:
- no
- Remarks:
- study was conducted prior to implementation of GLP
- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning time (test type not further specified)
- Remarks:
- according to VDA recommendation 2263 part 1
- Remarks on result:
- other: Burning time was not reported, instead it was stated that testing revealed a short ignition, no spreading of fire and a fast quenching of flames.
- Interpretation of results:
- other: non-flammable
- Remarks:
- according to the method of Lütolf/VDI recommendation2263 part 1
- Conclusions:
- Under the present conditions the test item was ignited and the spreading of fire and the quenching of flames was recorded and evaluated with a value of 2. It was documented that the time for ignition of the test item is short but it quenched shortly after ignition. Therefore the test substance is not classified as flammable.

Flammability according to the method of Lütolf was evaluated with a value of 2.
Description of key information
non flammable according to VDI recommendation 2263 part 1. In every study of the Weight of Evidence approach 2 -oxoglutaric acid was assessed with a value of 2 according to the method of Lütolf.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
Flammability of the test item was determined with a value of 2 using the method of Lütolf according to the VDI recommendation 2263 part 1 in three different studies. The test item shows short ignition and rapid extinction with no spreading of fire. Therefore, α-Ketoglutaric acid (2-oxoglutaric acid) is not classified as flammable.
