Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- In a guideline study, the 72 h NOEC and EC50 values based on growth rate and yield were determined to be >=100 mg/L and >100 mg/L, respectively.
- Executive summary:
The toxicity of pyridiniumsulfonate towards the unicellular green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was investigated in a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test; 2006/2011) and EU Method C.3 (Algal Inhibition Test; 2008/2009). Cultures of Desmodesmus subspicatus were exposed to 5 pyridiniumsulfonate concentrations ranging from 10 to 100 mg/L (nominal). At the beginning and at the end of the test, the content of the test substance was analysed via HPLC/UV. The measured concentrations laid in a range from 99 -101% of the nominal concentration. The 72 h ErC50 and 72 h EyC50 were determined to be >100 mg/L (nominal), respectively. The 72 h NOEC based on growth rate and yield was determined to be >=100 mg/L (nominal).
The study is considered as reliable without restriction and fulfills the requirements of the guideline.
