Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The ErC50(72h) for Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined as 26 mg/L and the NOECr(72h) as 6 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
26 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
6 mg/L

Additional information

An acute toxicity study was conducted with Desmodesmus subspicatus (Safepharm Laboratories, 2007) according to OECD Guideline 201 using a static design. Nominal exposure concentrations were 6.25; 12.5; 25; 50 and 100 mg/L. The test concentrations were prepared by diluting a saturated solution prepared from an initial test material dispersion at 1000 mg/L. Based on measured test concentrations (geometric mean) the 72-hour EC50 value for growth rate was determined to be 26 mg/L, the respective 72-hour NOEC was determined to be 6 mg/L.

Supporting study:

An acute toxicity study was conducted with Scenedesmus subspicatus (BASF AG 1995) according to OECD Guideline 201 using a static design. Nominal exposure concentrations were 6.25; 12.5; 25; 50 and 100 mg/L. The analytical recovery after after 0 hours was 24.8 - 30.6% in all analysed test solutions and after 72 hours below detection limit. No significant effects on growth were observed up to the highest concentration tested. The 72-hour EC50 value for growth rate is therefore > 100 mg/L of the nominal concentration.
