- Endpoint:
- oxidising liquids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- From 23 august 2016 To 03 November 2016
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.21 (Oxidising Properties (Liquids))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material: CY50561001
- Purity: 65.4% (in solution) - Contact with:
- powdered cellulose
- Duration of test (contact time):
- 60 s
- Key result
- Sample tested:
- test mixture 1:1
- Parameter:
- mean pressure rise time
- Result:
- 16.05 s
- Key result
- Sample tested:
- reference mixture with 65% nitric acid + cellulose (1:1 ratio)
- Parameter:
- mean pressure rise time
- Result:
- 4 s
- Interpretation of results:
- other: not oxidising according to EU Method A.21
- Conclusions:
- Oxidising liquids (EC Test A21) testing conducted on the test item indicates that the material is not classified as an oxidising liquid.
- Executive summary:
The study was designed to determine the potential for a liquid substance to increase the burning rate or burning intensity of a combustible substance when they are mixed, or to form a mixture which spontaneously ignites.
The test is conducted in accordance with the procedure described in EU Method A21and under GLP.
The sample of the test item was found to have a mean pressure rise time greater than that observed for the nitric acid reference sample.
The sample is therefore not considered to be an oxidising liquid.
Reference
The sample of test item was found to have a mean pressure rise time greater than the one observed for the nitric acid reference sample. The sample is therefore not considered to be an oxidising liquid.
Description of key information
The Oxidising properties of the test item was determined according to recognized guideline (EU Method A.21 ) and under GLP. No deviation from the guideline was observed during the test.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Oxidising properties:
- non oxidising
Additional information
The test item is always manufactured and marketed in aqueous solution. Therefore, the oxidising study performed to assess the classification of the test item was performed on a test item aqueous solution (with the typical commercial composition).
Justification for classification or non-classification
The sample of the test item was found to have a mean pressure rise time greater than that observed for the nitric acid reference sample. Therefore the test item is not classified for oxidising properties based on test performed according to UE A.21 Method.
The principle of this method is the same than the UN Test O.2 used for assess classification according to CLP regulation. Therefore, the test item is not considered as oxidising according to GHS criteria.
