Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- The surface tension of a saturated solution of Stepan TAB-2 was determined to be 70.0 mN/m. Based on the criteria as outlined in the proposed updated version of the EEC guideline, it was concluded in the study that Stepan TAB-2 should not be regarded as a surface active material.
- Executive summary:
The surface tension of an aqueous solution of Stepan TAB-2 was determined according to OECD Guideline No. 115 following good laboratory practices. The ring method was employed. The surface tension of a saturated solution of Stepan TAB-2 was determined to be 70.0 mN/m. According to the criteria as outlined in the proposed updating of the Base Set Methods (Annex V of dir. 79/831), versions November 1989, Part A. 5, page 16; substances showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this method, should be regarded as being surface active materials. It was therefore concluded in the study that Stepan TAB-2 should not be regarded as a surface active material.
