- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks on result:
- other: the substance does not propagate burning along the 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 min test period
- Remarks:
- the sample reproducibly extinguishes after 40 mm burning distance
- Interpretation of results:
- not classified based on GHS criteria
- Conclusions:
- The test item has not to be classified as readily combustible solid in Class 4, Division 4.1 according to the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and has not to be classified as flammable solid according to Regulation (EC) no 1271/2008.
- Executive summary:
The objective of this study was the determination of the flammability of the test item.
In a screening test according to Directive VDI 2263, part 1, the combustion behaviour of the test item was assessed. Combustion class 5 was assigned.
In the next step the burning rate was determined according to the Recommendations on the TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS: Manual of Tests and Criteria, 6thedition, New York and Geneva, 2015: Appendix 6, Class 4, Division 4.1: Readily Combustible Solids, Test N.1.
The test item only burnt over a distance of 40 mm applying a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes.
Thus, the test item has not to be classified as flammable solid according to Regulation (EC) no 1272/2008.
In the preliminary test combustion class (Brennzahl) 5, "burning with flame or spark generation", was assigned to the test item.
In the next step the burning rate was to be determined. In the preliminary test the flame extinguished reproducibly after a distance of 4 cm. Thus, no further tests were conducted and the result was judged equal to the limit time of 120 s.

- other: result refers to the pure test substance and the Kieselgur mixture (1:1)
Any other information on results incl. tables
In the screening test according to Grewer with the pure product at 290°C the beginning of self-heating was recorded leading to a maxiumum temperature of 500°C.
In the screening test with the kieselguhr mixture self-heatiing was detected starting at 290°C leading to a maxium temperature of 350°C.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- Due to the results from the Grewer-Oven screening test the test item has not to be classified as self-heating substance according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
- Executive summary:
In the screening test in the Grewer oven according to Directive VDI 2263, part 1, the test item showed at 290°C the beginning of self-heating leading to a maxiumum temperature of 500°C.
According to Regulation EC 1272/2008, annex I section 2.11.4.2. nur further studies are required and the test item has not to be classified als self-heating substance.
