Fire-fighting measures
(e.g.water, carbon dioxide, foam, dry powder). Substance
itself does not present a fire hazard. If involved in a
fire, nitric oxides and sulphur dioxide may be produced. A
self-contained breathing apparatus should be used.

adequate containers e.g. in polyethylene bags in sealed
steel drums.

Disposal considerations

remaining highly water soluble substance is not practical.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a controlled landfill site is possible.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Disposal by this method at an approved facility equipped
with waste gas treatment to remove nitrogen and sulphur
oxides and metal oxides is possible.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Waste gas will contain less than 5% of the substance. Waste
water is discharged into internal industrial effluents as a
highly diluted solution. Tanneries, dye-works and paper
mills are well aware of this waste water and treat it by
installing pre-purification plants. Part of it will be
discharged into industrial effluents. Total aerobic
degradation is unlikely, although partial degradation may
occur.However the literature suggests it will be destroyed
by anaerobic degradation (see Brown and
Laboureur,Chemosphere,1983, 12(3),397-404 and ETAD project
E 3013 on sediment analysis of the Rhine,status report June
27,1980).
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance itself will not enter the public domain.
