Additional information

The only available experimental study, on terrestrial bioaccumulation, indicated that 4,4'-methylenebis(2-chloroaniline) is absorbed by plants both from soil and through leaves, but that little translocation of the substance to the above ground plant parts takes place. Bioconcentration factors were the highest for sorghum roots, up to 400 L/kg, and shoots, up to 1 L/kg, compared to green beans, orchard grass, carrot plants and cucumber.

The BCFWIN program estimated an aquatic BCF of 20.73 L/kg based on an experimentally derived logKow = 2.5.

In the OECD QSAR application toolbox, experimental values from two sources are available which show BCF values in Cyprinus carpio ranging from 173 to 398 L/kg.

In conclusion, 4,4'-methylenebis(2-chloroaniline) will not be classified as a bioaccumulative substance as the above mentioned results indicate BCF values which are far below the threshold of 2000 L/kg.
