Additional information

2-Vinylpyridine does not hydrolyze in water to a significant degree. Absorption of water promotes autopolymerisation (see stability studies). This substance does react in the atmosphere with ozone, hydroxyl and nitrate radicals, to form primarily 2-pyridinecarboxyaldehyde. Under ambient atmospheric conditions, the lifetime of 2VP due to reaction with hydroxyl radicals, nitrate radicals and ozone is approximately 3 hours, 4 hours and 1 day, respectively. This is similar to the well-known atmospheric fate pathway of styrene conversion to benzaldehyde.
