First-aid measures

If contaminated seek medical advice immediately. Ensure that the First Aid Personnel are aware of the product involved, and take precautions to protect themselves (e.g. wear personal protection equipment). Remove affected person from danger area, lay him down. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately. Keep warm, calm and covered up.

If inhaled : Remove the casualty into fresh air and keep him calm.

In case of skin contact : In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with soap and with plenty of water.

In case of eye contact : In case of contact with the eyes rinse thoroughly with plenty of water or with an eye-cleaning solution.

If swallowed : Drink water. Seek medical aid immediately and show the physician the packaging or the label of the packaging.

Do NOT induce vomiting.

Symptoms : Causes severe burns to skin and eyes.

For physicians: Substance is strongly acidic. Substance hydrolyzes to hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid derivative. Treatment similar to intoxication or contamination with hydrochloric acid and/or phosphoric acid.

Fire-fighting measures

The substance itself is flamable. The substance hydrolyzes in the presence of water under formation of hydrogenchloride.

Suitable extinguishing media :

foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide

Extinguishing media that must not be used for safety reasons :

Full water jet, water spray jet

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture in case of heavy fires: hazardous combustion gases may be formed, like Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogenchloride, phosphorus oxides. Under certain conditions of combustion traces of other toxic substances cannot be excluded.

Special protective equipment for firefighters: Do not inhale explosion and/or combustion gases, use self-contained breathing apparatus

Avoid skin or eye contact.

Further information : Fire residues and contaminated firefighting water should be collected and treated or disposed of in accordance with the local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions : Acid-resistant protective clothing. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of major spillage or high contamination risk wear acid resistant chemical protection suit. In case of handling the product as a hot melt, take care for hot surfaces and wear additional heat-protection gloves.

Environmental precautions : Do not allow entry to drains, water courses or soil. Contain contaminated water/firefighting water.

Methods for cleaning up : Contain spillage and transfer to a container for disposal according to local regulations (see section 13). Small residual amounts can be washed away with plenty of water if waste water is collected and treated in an on site STP.

Handling and storage

This substance should be handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems should be available at each manufacturing and use site. Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions should be requested from any affected distributor and downstream user of the registrant's intermediate.

Provide good ventilation of working area (local exhaust ventilation if necessary). Avoid formation of fumes or aerosols. Do not inhale fumes or aerosol. Observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals. The product is flamable. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic loading. Advice on protection against fire and explosion.

The product vapours are heavier than air. Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Keep away from sources of ignition - refrain from smoking.

Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charges - earthing necessary during loading operations. Observe the general rules of industrial fire and explosion protection

Do not store in metal containers or drums. May form flamable gases (hydogen) in contact with metal.

Keep container tightly closed in a well-ventilated place. Protect from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store or transport together with foodstuffs.

Exposure controls / personal protection

This substance should be handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems should be available at each manufacturing and use site.

Handle substance with care. Do not inhale fumes or aerosols. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Respiratory protection : Use respiratory protection in case of insufficient ventilation or prolonged exposure.

Hand protection : Nitril-, Butyl- and PVC-gloves are suitable. Because the specification of that kind of gloves vary with the manufacturer please refer to the specification of the manufacturer to assure resistance.

Eye protection : tightly fitting safety glasses

In case of possible exposure use acid-resistant protective clothing.

Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately and clean thoroughly before using again. Garments that cannot be cleaned must be destroyed (burnt). Keep away from foodstuffs and beverages. Clean hands and face during work intervals and after work.

In case of accidental release or fire, do not allow entry to drains, water courses or soil. Contain contaminated water/firefighting water.

Stability and reactivity

The product reacts vigourous with alkaline substances. The product rapidly hydrolyzes in presence of water. May form toxic and corrosive gases (HCl) in contact with water. In absence of metal the substance is stable under normal conditions. In presence of alumina the substance is thermally unstable. The substance may be corrosive to metals. May form flamable gases (hydogen) in contact with metal. Materials to avoid : water, alkaline substances, metals.

Disposal considerations

Dispose waste in special waste incineration plant, after consultation with operators. Observe local authority regulations.

Packaging that cannot be cleaned should be disposed of as product waste.
