Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No experimental data evaluating the potential for ready biodegradability of Glycerides, mixed coco, decanoyl and octanoyl (CAS No. 68606-18-8) are available. Therefore, ready biodegradability studies from analogue category members, propane-1,2,3-triyl trisheptanoate (CAS No. 620-67-7) and 1,2,3-propanetriyl trioleate (CAS No. 122-32-7), are used as read-across in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Glycerides, mixed coco, decanoyl and octanoyl is mainly a triglyceride formed by the combination of fatty acids of different C-chain lengths (C6 to C18 unsaturated) and glycerol. Propane-1,2,3-triyl trisheptanoate (CAS No. 620-67-7) and 1,2,3-propanetriyl trioleate (CAS No. 122-32-7) are also triglycerides with fatty acid chain lengths of C7 and C12 to C18 unsaturated, respectively. These two substances cover the whole fatty acid C-chain range present in Glycerides, mixed coco, decanoyl and octanoyl. Therefore, they are considered to give a reliable indication of the biodegradation potential of this substance, and the read-across is justified.

One study evaluating the potential for ready biodegradability of propane-1,2,3-triyl trisheptanoate (CAS No. 620-67-7) is available (Scholz, 1993). This test was conducted according to BOD-Test for Insoluble Substances, method equivalent to ISO Guideline 10708 , under GLP conditions. Activated sludge was exposed for 28 days to the test substance and biodegradation followed by measuring O2consumption in the test vessels. The results of this test show extensive biodegradation of the substance, reaching 92% after 28 days and fulfilling the 14-day window criterion (valid for Closed Bottle method). The ready biodegradability test available for 1,2,3-propanetriyl trioleate (CAS No. 122-32-7) was conducted according to OECD Guideline 301B, under GLP conditions (Coenen, 1991). Activated sludge was exposed for 28 days to the test substance (at 10 and 20 mg/L) and biodegradation was followed by measuring CO2production in the test vessels. After 28 days, the reference substance (sodium acetate) did not fulfil the validity criterion for this test (60% biodegradation was attained only after 20 days, instead of 14 days). However, considering the extensive observed biodegradation of the test substance in both 10 and 20 mg/L replicates (76.5%) and that 60% was biodegraded within the 10-day window, the results from this test are considered to be valid for further assessment.

Based on the results obtained for the structurally similar category substances (in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5) Glycerides, mixed coco, decanoyl and octanoyl can be considered readily biodegradable.
