Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Potassium trifluoroacetate is a salt of Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) which is a strong organic acid with a pKa of 0.23. Therefore, it will be under dissociated form in all environmental compartments. No data is available on the possible reductive and oxidative degradation of potassium trifluoroacetate.

But data on Sodium trifluoroacetate (TFANa) are available and can be used in a read across approach (see the Endpoint Study Summary of environmental fate and pathway for the justification of this approach). From these experiments it can be postulated that direct and indirect photolysis are not expected to be an important transformation process for TFA salt in water and air.

No standard test is available to assess the decomposition or degradation of TFAK by reaction with water. However the hydrolysis potential of TFAK is expected to be very low based on its chemical structure.
