Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The inhibitory effect of N,N-dibutylformamide has been investigated in three studies. The effect of respiration activity of activated sludge from a domestic sewage treatment plant was investigated in two studies following ISO 8192, (BASF AG, 1989). The (3 h) EC20 test value was determined to be greater than 750 mg/L, therefore the lower concentrations were taken and the test procedure was repeated. As result, the (3 h) EC20 value was greater than 500 mg/L.

Additionally, in an oxygen consumption test using Pseudomonas putida (ROBRA test) an EC10 of 1580 mg/L was determined (BASF AG, 1989; 89/0729).

It can be concluded, that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance i introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
