Description of key information
The 21d-NOEC (parental weight) is 7.14 mg a.i./L in a OECD guideline 211 test with Daphnia magna under GLP (reliability 1). The 21d-NOEC for reproduction is 71.4 mg a.i./L

The long-term toxicity of (hydroxyethyl)urea was evaluated using the aquatic invertebrate Daphnia magna STRAUS - clone 5, in a semi-static test according to OECD TG 211.
The test criterion of toxicity used was reproductive capacity expressed as the number of neonates per daphnid per day.
No effects were observed in the acute daphnia test and the following nominal test concentrations were therefore used:
0, 10, and 100 mg/L which correspond with the following concentrations based on active ingredient: 0, 7.14 and 71.4 mg/L
The exposure concentrations were checked by specific chemical analysis of the test solutions on 6 occasions during the test.
The results of the chemical analyses show that the concentrations in fresh and old test solutions are close to nominal and stayed within 80 to 120% of the nominal. Therefore, nominal test substance concentrations are used to calculate the effects. The validity criteria were respected:
Cultures were in good health (i.e. disease free, no ephippia or males, no discolored animals).
No significant effects were found up to the highest test concentration on reproduction and parental length using Dunnett’s test. NOEC for these endpoints is equal to or greater than 100 mg/L or 71.4 mg a.i./L.
Parental weight data showed significant effects at the highest test concentration, in which reproduction of juveniles was higher than in the control, and therefore NOEC is 10 mg/L. or 7.14 mg a.i./LInformation on Registered Substances comes from registration dossiers which have been assigned a registration number.
