On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2- naphthalenesulfonic acid complex was determine to be a orange powder.
Melting point:
The melting point determination of Test item Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex (CAS No. 15790-07-5 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The Mean decomposition temperature was determine to be 371.2°C at 975.9 hPa.
Boiling Point:
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid which melts above 300°C. The melting point determination of Test item Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex (CAS No. 15790-07-5 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The Mean decomposition temperature was determine to be 371.2°C at 975.9 hPa.
Density:
The density of test item Aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex (CAS No. 15790 -07 -5)was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Test methods: Pour density and tapped density of powders” recommended in The International Pharmacopoeia, Fourth Edition, 2014 using bulk density apparatus . The mean pour density and tapped density of test item is determine to be 0.2740 g/cm³ and 0.3575 g/cm³at 26.5°C and 975.5 hPa.
Particle size distribution:
The particle size distribution of test item Aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex (CAS No. 15790 -07 -5 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determine to be in the range of 150 micron to 10 micron.
Vapour pressure:
The estimated vapour pressure of Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex at 25 deg C was 6.88E-018 Pa.
Partition coefficient
The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of chemical aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex (CAS No. 15790-07-5) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals (Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB, Report no. UERL/PC/013-03, 2017). A test item solution was prepared by accurately weighing 3 mg of test item and diluted with methanol: water (2:3) up to 25 ml. Thus, the test solution concentration was 120 mg/l. The pH of test substance was 5.44. The reference substances were chosen according to functional similarity with the test substance and calibration graph was prepared was prepared. The reference substances were acetophenone, benzophenone, phenol, benzene, 2-nitrophenol, nitrobenzene, and naphthalene having Pow value ranging from 1.5 to 3.6. The Log Pow value was determined to be 3.706±0.001 at 25°C. On the basis of this value, the test substance aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex can be considered to be hydrophilic in nature.
Water solubility:
The water solubility determination of test item Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex; CAS No.15790-07-5 was done by spectrophotometric method. The water solubility was determine to be 583.324 mg/L at 29°C.
Solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility:
Gravimetric method was used to determine the solubility of the substance in organic solvent. The experimental value of solubility of aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex in methanol at temperature of 21 deg C was found to be 400 mg/L indicating that aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex is moderately soluble in methanol. Using the Soxhlet/Solvent extraction method the solubility of the substance in Petroleum ether is observed to be 400 mg/L at 21 degC, indicating that aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex is moderately soluble in Petroleum ether .The solubility value of aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex in both methanol and petroleum ether at 20 degC is equivalent to a value of 380.952 mg/L.
Surface tension:
In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement 7.6, this end point was considered for waiver since surface activity was not a desired property of aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex (CAS No. 15790-07-5) was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was determine to be 209.5°C at 975.8 hPa.
Auto flammability:
Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 21 deg C and atmospheric pressure of 1005 hPa. This indicates that aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
From the experimental values of flammability, Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex ignited when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of 950 deg C was brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex is flammable only at high temperature of about 950 deg C. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use 4 Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
According to theoretical considerations based on chemical structure, Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex does not possess explosive properties. The reason for this is there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex. Thus, as per column 2 of Annex VII this end point was considered for waiver.
Oxidizing properties:
Aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex was found to have mild oxidising property since 15228 ml of KMnO4 was required for getting the end point of the redox titration for 100 g of Aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex.
Stability in organic solvents and identity of relevant degradation products:
Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex was observed to be stable in organic solvent dichloro methane and no degradation products were formed after 24 hours as evident from the GC-MS chromatogram obtained at 0 hours and that obtained after 24 hours.
pH :
The pH determination of test item Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex (CAS No 15790 -07 -5) was done following OECD guideline 122. pH of 1% w/v dispersion was measured with the help of pH meter and it was observed to be 3.85 at 27 °C.
Dissociation constant
The average experimental pKa value for Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex was determine to be 3.45E-07 at 21 deg C indicating that the chemical has dissociation properties.
Viscosity:
This end point was considered for waiver since viscosity is an inherent property of a liquid that offers resistance to its flow and Aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex is a solid substance and hence this testing was considered scientifically unjustified for Aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex.

Thus 1% by volume solution of Aluminium, 6 -hydroxy-5 -[(4 -sulfophenyl)azo]-2 -naphthalenesulfonic acid complex is relatively acidic in nature.
