Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: Immediately remove to fresh air. Consult a physician if
irritating symptoms develop and persist.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with gently running water for 15
minutes, maintaining eyelids open. Consult an
ophthalmologist or a physician.
Emergency measure - Skin: Take off all contaminated clothing immediately. After
contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and
soap.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Provided person is conscious, wash out mouth with water.
Call a physician immediately.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray jet, foam, dry powder & caobon dioxide
Product arising from burning: Carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.
Accidental release measures
Emergency measures in case of spillage: Personal Ptotective Equipment for open handling is outlined
as follows:
Respiratory protection: In case of airborne dust: Air-
purifying disposable particulate mask or air-purifying
reusable face respirator.
Eye protection: safety glasses according to EN166
Hand protection: chemical resistant gloves (EN374/EN188)
Others: working clothes - Disposable Tyvek suit
The precautions to be taken in case of accidental release
are outlined as follows:
After spillage, leakage, gas leakage, small amounts:
Evacuate endangered area, avoid sparks, seal off area. Call
fire brigade immediately. Must not be released into sewers,
drains or wells. Wear heavy protective equipment (as stated
above). Take up by mechanical means and dispose. Place into
closable and properly labelled drums.
Cleaning of equipment: Wash with plenty of water in a safe
way. The substance is not, or only partly miscible with
water.
Handling and storage
Handling: The material arrives on site in Fibre Drums with plastic
inliner. A sample of material is taken for analysis on site.
This is carried out in a laminar flow booth while the
operator has additional protection using suitable
respiratory protection (Full face respirator with
particulate / carbon-Kemira Mask (EN149/EN143).
When the material is required for production it is
transferred in a fully contained system (Drum Contained
Powder Transfer System), from fibre drum to process vessel.
The system is designed to ensure the powder is fully
contained during the transfer.
Storage: The drums are stored fully contained in a clean, dry
warehouse protected from heat and light. All materials are
stored in accordance with the Novartis Warehouse Corporate
HSE Guidance Note 6.1. This specifies all the requirements
for safe storage of chemicals used at Novartis.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Material stored in warehouse in fibre kegs with double
liner, ca. 50kg / drum.

Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Based on operational history, liquid spillages are not
anticipated. However, in the event of such a spillage, a
dedicated holding basin has been provided in the company's
wastewater treatment plant. The facility has a continuously
monitored surface water protection system to retain
spillages, which occur outside the operational plant.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: In the process, all the substance is consumed. All solid
waste and liquid waste streams are incinerated to ensure
complete destruction of residual hazardous components.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incineration is used for all solid and liquid wastes.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: Not applicable.
