- Conclusions:
- The density of the test item P-MENTHANE-1,8-DIOL was determined to be 1048.2 kg/m3 at 20.0 +/- 0.1°C (mean of two determinations).
The relative density of the test item was determined to be D204 = 1.048 - Executive summary:
A study was performed to determine the density of the test item P-MENTHANE-1,8-DIOL. The method followed was designed to be compliant with the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 109, "Density of Liquids and Solids"(2012) and the Method A.3 of Commission Regulation No. 440/2008, “Relative Density”
In this method, the density is determined at a specific temperature using a pycnometer.
A saturated solution of the test item is prepared in water, petroleum or any solvent in which the substance is sparingly soluble and does not react.
The weights of the pycnometer empty and filled successively with water and saturated solution are taken. A certain amount of test item is then added in the pycnometer and weighted. It is then completed with saturated solution and weighted again.
These weights allow to determine the density.Determination Density (kg/m3) at 20.0 +/-0.1°C 1 1058.5 2 1049.6 3 1046.7 Mean of determinations 2 and 3 1048.2 Validity criteria (less than 1% of difference) is respected between the couple of values 1-2 and 2-3. The two determinations with the closest results (2 and 3) were taken into account and their arithmetic mean is considered as the result of the experiment.
Moreover, the pycnometer volumes Vcontrol calculated for each pycnometer respects their checking cards limits and the bath used to maintain the pycnometer at 20.0°C did not vary by more than 0.1°C.The density of the test item was determined to be 1048.2 kg/m3 at 20.0 +/- 0.1°C (mean value of determinations 2 and 3).
The relative density of the test item was determined to be D204 = 1.048

Determinations 2 and 3 have the closest results (0.28% of difference). Their arithmetic mean is 1048.2 kg/m3 at 20.0 +/- 0.1°C. The corresponding relative density of the test item is D204 = 1.048
Moreover, the pycnometer volumes Vcontrol calculated for each pycnometer respects their checking cards limits and the bath used to maintain the pycnometer at 20.0°C did not vary by more than 0.1°C.
