Description of key information

Short description of key information on bioaccumulation potential result:
Literature on use a potential therapeutic agent indicate that there is no systemic uptake after ingestion. This is supported by the extremely poor solubility in water of less than 0.06 mg/L and the molecular weight of 585 Da.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The pharmacokinetics and distribution of zinc phthalocyanine in liposomes were studied as a function of aggregation state, particle size, and composition in tumor-bearing mice who received an intravenous injection of 0.25 mg dye. Aggregation of dye in the liposomes increased the clearance rate from plasma, lowered the maximal level in tumor, and increased the maximal level in liver. Aggregated dye was hardly eliminated from liver and monomeric dye was eventually completely eliminated from this organ. Liposomes of the size 48-123 nm containing dye with the same aggregation state showed the same pharmacokinetics and distribution. The formulation with monomeric dye had a compositional homogeneity and showed selectivity and reached uptake in tumors 48 h after injection.
