Principles of method if other than guideline:
Initial testing: Approximately 100g of sample was placed in an open beaker, and heated on a hotplate. The temperature was monitored using a thermometer.
Further testing: Approximately 100g of sample was heated in a conical flask with the heat source provided from a hot plate. A condenser was used to collect any distillate from the substance, with a thermometer measuring the temperature of the test substance, and a second thermometer to monitor the condensate temperature. The sample was heated through a range of 100ºC to 220ºC, with the temperature of the condensate monitored throughout.
