Description of key information
The registered substance is an inorganic, blue/dark blue powder and is odourless at 20 °C and 1013 hPa. Based on the results of a transformation/dissolution study, the following concentrations of tungsten (W) and cesium (Cs) at 20.0 – 20.9 °C were reported:
1 mg/L nominal: 0.307 mg/L W
10 mg/L nominal: 2.533 mg/L W
100 mg/L nominal: 17.754 mg/L W; 5.697 mg/L Cs.
As the test substance is a sparingly soluble inorganic metal compound surface activity is not expected. The true density is 7.4 g/cm³ at 20 °C. Average particle size distribution was determined as being 0.229 μm. Based on structure, there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties. The melting point of the registered substance is between 1,040 and 1,050 °C. The boiling point and vapour pressure were not determined because the substance is a solid which melts above 300 °C. The flash point and partition coefficient do not need to be conducted because the substance is inorganic. The registered substance exhibited no oxidizing properties during testing. No ignition was observed throughout the course of a flammability test; thus the registered substance is considered as not highly flammable (for EU regulations) and as non-flammable solid (for UN regulations). The auto-flammability study was not conducted as results exclude self-heating of the substance up to 400 °C. As well, the melting point analysis (TGA) demonstrated that there is no phase change up to 400 °C and beyond.
