Description of key information

The test item dibutyl peroxydicarbonat is not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the CO2 evolution test according to OECD 301B. Due to the known tendency of dibutyl peroxydicarbonate to fast hydrolysis a modified pre-test based on OECD-Guideline 111, European Commission Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Annex, Part C, method C.7, and US EPA OCSPP 835.2120 was performed. The measured half-life time of the test item without pH adjustment was 66.6 min at 22 °C. The hydrolysis process is a simple conversion from the unhydrolysed test item to one individual hydrolysis product. n-Butanol could be identified as the main hydrolysis product.

Dibutyl peroxydicarbonate has an EPISuite estimated log Pow of 3.19, indicating no potential for bioaccumulation.

The adsorption/desorption coefficient was estimated to be approximately 25.44 L/kg using the QSAR model KOCWIN v2.00. Therefore, dibutyl peroxydicarbonate shows a low adsorption potential to solid phases in soil and sediment in aquatic ecosystems.
