The concentration 1 g/L seems to be visually clear. It was check for Tyndall effect by using a laser and taken a photo with sidelight.

In sidelight some particles are visible. The laser test shows a Tyndall effect. Therefore, the octanol solubility of hydrogenated tallow/nortallow based IQAC is < 1g /L.

Conclusions:
In the present test the partition coefficient was determined using the shake flask method according to OECD guideline 107, Method A8 of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008. Taking the water solubility of hydrogenated tallow/nortallow based IQAC of < 0.5 mg/L into account, this would correspond to a log Pow of ≤ 3.3 at room temperature (22 °C).
Executive summary:

In a study conducted according to OECD guideline 107 and Method A8 of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, the partition coefficeint of the test item was determined using the shake flask method. Due to the low water solubility the octanol solubility was determined first. To determine the octanol solubility, 0.1 mL, 0.4 mL, 0.5 mL, 1 mL, 8 mL, and 90 mL 1-octanol were added to approx. 100 mg (test I) at room temperature. A second test with 500 mg test item was additionally done. The concentration 1 g/L seemed to be visually clear. It was check for Tyndall effect by using a laser and taken a photo with sidelight.  In sidelight some particles were visible. The laser test showed a Tyndall effect. Therefore, the octanol solubility of hydrogenated tallow/nortallow based IQAC is < 1g /L. Taking the water solubility of hydrogenated tallow/nortallow based IQAC of < 0.5 mg/L into account, this would correspond to a log Pow of ≤3.3 at room temperature (22 °C).

Description of key information

- Test similar to OECD guideline 105, shake flask method performed with 1 -octanol only due to the known low solubility of the test item in water, log Pow 3.3

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
3.3
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

In the present test the partition coefficient was determined using the shake flask method according to OECD guideline 105, Method A6 of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008. Taking the water solubility of hydrogenated tallow/nortallow based IQAC of < 0.5 mg/L into account, this would correspond to a log POW of ≤ 3.3 at room temperature (22 °C).
