Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity data of barium m-toluate are not available. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble barium substances and m-toluic acid is applied for the assessment of barium m-toluate since the ions of barium m-toluate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data available for soluble barium substances and m-toluate indicate that the moiety of ecotoloxicological concern are m-toluate anions.Based on measured total Ba-levels in the water column, a 96-h LC50 of > 97.5 mg Ba/L (corresponding to > 3.5 mg dissolved Ba/L) is reported for fish whereas the LC50 is set conservatively at 82 mg/L for m-toluic acid. However, barium m-toluate is expected to have a low potential for acute toxicity to fish.
