Description of key information

In the key skin irritation study, conducted according to OECD TG 404 and in compliance with GLP, the test item, N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane, was concluded to be not irritating to rabbit skin (Safepharm, 2003).

In the key eye irritation study, conducted according to OECD TG 405 and in compliance with GLP, the test material, N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane, was concluded to be not irritating to rabbit eyes (Safepharm, 2003).

Additional information

In the key skin irritation study, conducted according to OECD TG 404 and in compliance with GLP, the test item, N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane, was concluded to be not irritating to rabbit skin (Safepharm 2003).

Following a single 4 -hour, semi-occluded application of undiluted test material to intact skin of three rabbits, well-defined erythema and very slight to slight oedema were observed. Loss of skin elasticity was also noted. No corrosive effects were observed. Treated skin sites appeared normal by 7 days post- application.

Following 3 -minute and 1 -hour semi-occluded application of the test material to intact skin of one rabbit, no corrosive or irritant effects were observed.

In the key eye irritation study, conducted according to OECD TG 405 and in compliance with GLP, the test material, N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane, was concluded to be not irritating to rabbit eyes (Safepharm 2003).

Following a single instillation of undiluted test material to non-irrigated eye of three rabbits, moderate conjunctival irritation was observed. Two of the treated eyes appeared normal by 48 hours post instillation and the remaining eye appeared normal by 72 hours after application. No other effects were observed in any of the test animals.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data for N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane, no classification for skin or eye irritation is required according to Regulation (EC) No. 1282/2008.
