The density of the test material was investigated in a study which was conducted under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 109 and EU Method A.3. All methodology and results were reported in full. The study was therefore assigned a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the principles for assessing data quality as described by Klimisch et al. (1997).
The determination was carried out with a gas comparison pycnometer. Following calibration of the system using a stainless steel calibration sphere (carried out in triplicate), a glass vessel was placed in the sample cell of the pycnometer. The pressure readings were recorded after pressurising the reference cell of determined volume and then after adding the sample cell of determined volume to the system.
The test material was transferred to the vessel until approximately half full and then equilibrated to 20.0 + 0.5 °C prior to being weighed. The vessel containing test material was then placed in the sample cell and pressure readings were recorded after pressurising the reference cell and then after adding the sample cell to the system. Triplicate measurements were taken for two independent determinations.
The density of the test material has been determined to be 920 kg/m³ at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C and the relative density to be 0.920.
