- Executive summary:
The study on "Determination of Explosive Properties of FAT 40875/A TE" was carried out in accordance with EEC method A.14 guideline. The test material FAT 40875/A was subjected to thermal sensitivity (effect of flame) and mechanical sensitivity (shock & friction).
The results of thermal sensitivity (effect of flame) test showed that after heating the test item with flame for 5 minutes using 6.0 and 2.0 mm diameter orifice plates, there was no fragmentation of steel tubes containing test item and hence, the test item was considered as non-explosive.
The results of mechanical sensitivity (shock) test showed that there was no bursting into flame or sparks when conducted the experiment with 10 kg mass from 0.4 meter height in six replications and hence, further experiment with lower weight (5 kg) and lower height (0.15 meter) was not performed. Therefore, the test item was considered as non-explosive when subjected to shock test.
The results of mechanical sensitivity (friction) test showed that there was no explosion, flame, sparks and crepitation when test was performed with 360 N (5 kg+ 4.9 kg) and hence, further experiment with 120 N was not performed. the test item was considered as non-explosive when subjected to friction test.
In conclusion, the results of the study revealed that FAT 40875/A TE is non explosive when subjected to flame, shock and friction.
