Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
The toxicity of the test substance to the unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according to the principles of OECD 201 (2011) and Council Regulation (EC) No 761/2009 C.3 at the test facility. After 72 hours the NOEC was determined to be 31.6 mg/L, the ErC10 was determined to be 50.7 mg/L and the ErC50 was determined to be 95.4 mg/L for growth. For yield the NOEC was determined to be 10.0 mg/L, the EyC10 was determined to be 33.4 mg/L and the EyC50 was determined to be 57.9 mg/L after 72 h.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- EC50 for freshwater algae:
- 95.4 mg/L
- EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
- 50.7 mg/L
Additional information
The effective concentrations (ErC10, ErC50 and EyC10, EyC50) as well as the no observed effect concentrations (NOErC and NOEyC), of the reaction mass to the green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus based on the average specific growth rate and the yield (algal biomass production) were investigated over a period of 72 h, following guideline OECD 201.
The reaction mass is a water miscible liquid, and consists of 2-hydroxyethyl formate and ethylendiformate (two main components) ; further components are ethylene glycol and formate.
The study was conducted under static conditions. Five concentrations were tested in a geometrical series with a dilution factor of 3.16, the nominal concentrations were: 1.00, 3.16, 10.0, 31.6 and 100 mg/L.
The concentrations of the reaction mass in all test concentrations were analytically verified by HPLC with UV detector at the start and after 24, 48 and 72 h.The measured concentrations of the reaction mass in the fresh media (0 h) were between 68 and 100 % of the nominal values. The measured concentrations in the old media (72 h) containing algae were in the range of 6 to 64% of the nominal values for the two highest concentrations and not applicable for the three lowest concentrations. The geometric mean measured concentrations of the test item were: < 0.72, < 0.91, < 1.34, ≥ 5.41 and 64.0 mg/L.
