- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks on result:
- other: The substance does ignite but does not propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the test item pile within the 4 minutes test period.
- Interpretation of results:
- other: not classified based on GHS and CLP criteria
- Conclusions:
- The substance is not highly flammable.
- Executive summary:
The flammability of the solid substance was determined a GLP study according to EC A.10 and UN Test N.1. In the preliminary screening test, the substance does ignite but does not propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the test item pile within the 4 minutes test period. The substance is concluded to be not highly flammable.
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- other:
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In an expert statement (in study report 513805) it was concluded that the substance has no pyrophoric properties. - Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In an expert statement (in study report 513805) it was concluded that the substance is ‘not highly flammable’ in contact with water. - Endpoint:
- self-heating substances / mixtures
- Data waiving:
- study technically not feasible
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In an expert statement (in study report 513805) it was concluded that the self-heating study does not need to be conducted. - Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
- data waiving: supporting information

In contact with flame, the test item melted, burned with a yellow/blue flame and turned into a brown/black residue. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 2 seconds and no propagation of combustion was observed.
Description of key information
Not highly flammable in contact with a flame (EC A.10, UN Test N.1: preliminary screening test).
No pyrophoric properties (based on experience in handling and structural features).
Not highly flammable in contact with water (based on experience in handling and structural features).
Self-heating is not a relevant property for this substance (melting point < 160°C).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
In accordance with CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008:
-Since the substance was not readily combustible in the UN Test N.1, no classification is required for the CLP hazard 'Flammable solid'.
-Based on experience in handling and the absence of chemical groups in the molecule of the substance associated with pyrophoric properties, no classification is required for the CLP hazard 'Pyrophoric solids'.
-Based on experience in handling and the absence of chemical groups in the molecule of the substance associated with water reactivity, no classification is required for the CLP hazard "Substances which in contact with water emits flammable gases'.
-Since the melting temperature of the substance is below 160°C, the substance need not be considered for CLP classification in the 'Self-heating substances' class.
