First-aid measures
Take persons to a safe place. Observe self-protection for first aid.
After contact with the eyes:
Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 10-15 minutes. Keep eyelids well open to rinse the whole eye surface and eyelids with water. Seek medical advice in case of continuous irritation.
After contact with the skin:
Remove contaminated or soaked clothing. Immediately rinse with plenty of soap and water. In serious cases, use emergency shower immediately. In the event of a visible skin change or other complaints, seek medical advice (show label or SDS where possible).
After inhalation:
Keep the patient calm. If unconscious place in stable sideways position. Protect against loss of body heat. Seek medical advice and clearly identify substance.
After swallowing:
If conscious, give several small portions of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice and clearly identify substance.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media:
Use water spray (not stream) to fight fires, extinguishing powder, alcohol-resistant foam. For small amounts: carbon dioxide.
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:
water jet.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Hazardous combustion products: hydrogen chloride.
Advice for firefighters
Special protective equipment for fire fighting:
Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.
General information:
Cool endangered containers with water.
Accidental release measures
Wear personal protection equipment. Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid inhaling mists and vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
Environmental precautions
Contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material (e.g. earth). Prevent material from entering sewers or surface waters. Dispose of in prescribed marked containers.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Do not flush away with water. Absorb with a liquid binding material such as diatomaceous earth and dispose of according to local/state/federal regulations. Contain larger amounts and pump up into suitable containers.
Further information:
Eliminate all sources of ignition.
Handling and storage
General information:
Avoid exposure by technical measures or personal protective equipment.
Precautions for safe handling:
Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from incompatible substances. Keep away from sources of ignition and do not smoke. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging.
Precautions against fire and explosion:
Flammable vapors may accumulate and form explosive mixtures with air in containers, process vessels, including partial, empty and uncleaned containers and vessels, or other enclosed spaces. Keep away from open flames, heat and sparks. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:
Do not store in containers made of aluminum or other light metals.
Advice for storage of incompatible materials:
Do not store with: Avoid contact with acids. Do not store together with fire-promoting and spontaneously inflammable substances or with highly inflammable solids.
Further information for storage:
Protect against moisture. Keep container tightly closed and store in a cool, well ventilated place. Keep container dry and tightly closed.

Exposure controls / personal protection
General protection and hygiene measures:
Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling. Do not breathe vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
Personal protection equipment:
Respiratory protection
In open handling, use respiratory protective equipment. Suitable respiratory equipment: Respirator with a full face mask, according to acknowledged standards such as EN 136.
Recommended Filter type: Combined filter type ABEK-P2 (certain inorganic, organic and acidic gases and vapors; ammonia/amines; particles), according to acknowledged standards such as EN 14387
Eye protection
tight fitting protective goggles .
Hand protection
Recommended glove types: Protective gloves made of fluorinated rubber
thickness of the material: 0,4 mm
Breakthrough time: 8 h
Recommended glove types: Protective gloves made of butyl rubber
thickness of the material: 0,5 mm
Breakthrough time: 4 h
Note that, due to the numerous external influences (such as temperature), a chemically resistant protective glove in daily use may have a service life that is considerably shorter than the measured break through time. Gloves are required at all times when handling the material.
Skin protection
protective clothing.
Exposure to the environment limited and controlled:
Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil.
Further information for system design and engineering measures:
Use only in closed systems.
Stability and reactivity
If stored and handled in accordance with standard industrial practices no hazardous reactions are known.
Conditions to avoid
Keep away from incompatible substances.
Incompatible materials:
Reacts with: acids. Reaction causes the formation of chloroacetaldehyde, ethanol.
Hazardous decomposition products:
By hydrolysis: chloroacetaldehyde, ethanol.
Disposal considerations
Material:
Recommendation:
Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Observe local/state/federal regulations.
Uncleaned packaging:
Recommendation:
Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re-used. Observe local/state/federal regulations. Uncleaned packaging should be treated with the same precautions as the material.
