Description of key information

Based on the structure and experience in handling and use of the substance, it can be reasoned that explosivity is not a concern.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Silicon carbide does not contain chemical groups that are known to contribute to explosivity.

Silicon carbide is used as refractory material in combustion chambers of power plants, garbage incinerators and metal melting.

Silicon carbide has a decomposition temperature above 2500 °C.

These facts, the absence of structural alerts and the data from secondary literature provided indicate that silicon carbide is not explosive and testing for explosive properties is not necessary.
