No toxic effects up to the limit of water solubility (<0.05 mg/L)

Since no studies on the acute toxicity to algae are available for
Fatty acids, C8-10, triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 91050-89-4),
the assessment of algal toxicity was based on a study conducted with the
category member for which data is available, Decanoic acid, ester with
2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol octanoate (CAS 11138-60-6) as
part of a read across approach. The read across is suitable due to the
similar fatty acid chain length of both substances. This is in
accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Grouping of
substance and read across approach. Further justification is given
within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the analogue justification
section 13. The short-term toxicity of the read-across substance
Decanoic acid, ester with 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol
octanoate (CAS No 11138-60-6) was tested using Desmodesmus subspicatus
as test organisms (Häner, 2007). The test was conducted as a limit test
and in compliance with OECD guideline 201. The algae were exposed to the
test substance for 72 hours. The water accommodated fraction (WAF) of
the test substance was used for the preparation of test solutions. Based
on the growth rate of algae an EL50 > 100 mg/L (nominal) was determined.
According to the results for the structurally related read-across
substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5)
that is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile, toxic
effects of Fatty acids, C8-10, triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS
91050-89-4) to aquatic algae are considered as unlikely.As it can be
seen in the data matrix of the category justification in section 13 and
the overall endpoint summary IUCLID 6.1, all reliable data in the
category support the hazard assessment of each category member by
showing a consistent pattern of results, i.e. no toxic effects to
aquatic organisms were observed up to the limit of water solubility.
