Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
adsorption / desorption: screening
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
July 16 - October 13, 2007
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: The study has been performed according to OECD guidelines and according to GLP principles.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 121 (Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (Koc) on Soil and on Sewage Sludge using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC))
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method C.19 (Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (KOC) on Soil and Sewage Sludge Using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC))
Deviations:
no

Test temperature:
Column temperature: 35°C
Details on study design: HPLC method:
EQUIPMENT
- Apparatus: Alliance Separation Module 2695 (Waters, Milford, MA, USA)
- Type, material and dimension of analytical (guard) column: 100 mm x 2.1 mm i.d. Hypersil BDS-CN; dp = 3 µm (Thermo, San Jose, CA, USA)

- Type: 55/45 (v/v) methanol/Milli-Q water
- Experiments with additives carried out on separate columns: no

DETERMINATION OF DEAD TIME
- Method: by means of homologous series / by inert substances which are not retained by the column

REFERENCE SUBSTANCES
- Identity: Phenol, N,N-Dimethylbenzamide, Methylbenzoate, 3,5-Dinitrobenzamide, Naphthalene, Fenthion, Phenanthrene and 2,4-DDT
Key result
Type:
log Koc
Value:
> 5.63
Remarks on result:
other: at neutral pH

Comments:
The HPLC method at neutral pH was chosen for the
determination of the Koc as it was assumed that the mixture
of ester linked components were in their non-ionised form at
relevant pH values.

Ten compounds were observed in the LC-MS chromatograms of
the test substance solution. With all test substance related
compounds it was found that its retention time was higher
than the retention time of 2,4-DDT with a log Koc of 5.63.

Conclusions:
The Koc and log Koc values was 4.3x10^5 and > 5.63 for all test substance related compounds.

Description of key information

The study was performed according to OECD Guideline 121/EU method C.19 and GLP principles.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Koc at 20 °C:
430 000

Additional information

In an adsorption study performed according to OECD test guideline 121, the Koc was determined at neutral pH assuming that the constituents of the substance were in their non-ionised form. Ten constituents were observed in the LC-MS chromatograms. All then showed a retention time higher than the retention time of the reference substance 2,4 -DDT. Based on this the Kox and log Koc values were obtained. The Koc and log Koc value was >  4.3x105 and > 5.63, respectively, for all test substance related compounds.
