Additional information

Triboron trimethyl hexaoxide is known to rapidly hydrolyse in contact with water to form methanol (CAS 67-56-1) and boric acid (CAS 10043-35-3) (Steinberg and Hunter, 1957). For methanol relevant biodegradation data was gathered from the ECHA dissemination dossier (d.d. 2014 -04 -24). Methanol is qualified as readily biodegradable based on the results of a total of 4 key studies. For boric acid, the concept of biodegradation does not apply as it is an inorganic substance. For regulatory purposes, inorganic substances are to be regarded as not readily biodegradable. Therefore, the parent substance triboron trimethyl hexaoxide needs to be qualified as not readily biodegradable.
