Reference
Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Parameter:
sensitiveness to impact: impact energy (J)
Remarks on result:
not sensitive to impact using an impact energy of 40 J
Key result
Parameter:
thermal sensitivity - Koenen test: limiting diameter (mm)
Number of fragments:
0
Remarks on result:
not thermal sensitive if heated under defined confinement

In the Bam Fall Hammer (mechanical sensitivity (shock)) test, no explosion occurred in any of six replicate tests under the conditions of the test.

In the Koenen steel tube (thermal sensitivity) test, no explosion occurred in any of replicate tests under the conditions of the test.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
A negative result for explosive properties by thermal and mechanical sensitivity was demonstrated in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol conducted in accordance to GLP.

Description of key information

Explosiveness: Not explosive (EU Method A.14)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Four reliable measured explosivity studies are available for dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane. A negative result for explosive properties by thermal and mechanical (heat and shock) sensitivity was demonstrated in reliable studies conducted according to EU Method A.14 and in compliance with GLP. Under the conditions of the studies, dicyclopentyl(dimethoxy)silane is not considered explosive.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is not classified for explosivity in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 because negative results were obtained for the submission substance under the conditions of EU Method A.14.
