- Irritant / corrosive response data:
- No corneal or iridial effects were noted during the study. Moderate conjunctival irritation was noted in both treated eyes one hour after treatment with minimal conjunctival irritation noted at the 24 hour observation. Both treated eyes appeared normal at the 48 hour observation.
- Other effects:
- Black/brown coloured staining of the fur was noted around both treated eyes throughout the study. Both animals showed expected gain in bodyweight during the study.

Justification for read-across:
The substance Tall oil pitch (TOP) used to cover this endpoint was the educt of Ca-/Mg-salt of Tall Oil Pitch. Both substances are similar concerning their chemical structure and physico-chemical behaviour:
1. Structure: Part of free acids in tall oil pitch are neutralised as the corresponding Ca/Mg salts. Lipophilic parts of the acids are not affected as well as all other neutral substances not containing a free carboxylic acid group.
2. Physico-chemical behaviour: Due to the presence of ionised molecules, the water solubility of Ca-/Mg-salt of Tall Oil Pitch is slightly higher than that of TOP. However the solubilites are in the same order of magnitude. Thus, no signifant differences in toxicological studies are expected.
