- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with Section 2 of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH) Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the Flammability (Contact with Water) study required under Section 7.10 since, based on its chemical structure, and experience with handling, the substance is not expected to exhibit flammable properties in contact with water. - Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with Section 2 of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH) Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the Flammability (Pyrophoric Properties) study required under Section 7.10, since based on its chemical structure, and experience with handling, the substance is not expected to spontaneously ignite in air at room temperature. - Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 21 November 2011
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Test procedure:
- burning time (test type not further specified)
- Remarks:
- or specified in description of method (migrated information)
- Burning time:
- >= 507 - <= 563 s
- Remarks on result:
- other: In the preliminary test the test material propagated burning over a length of 200 mm in more than 4 minutes (507 and 563 sec). Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed.
- Interpretation of results:
- other: Not classified according to EU criteria
- Conclusions:
- The test material is considered flammable if the main test takes less than 45 seconds. In all other cases the test material is not considered flammable.
The test material ignited, but burning took more than 4 minutes. Therefore, the substance is considered not to be highly flammable. - Executive summary:
The flammability of the test material was determined in a study performed under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.10.
The test material was formed into a powder train. It was ignited by a gas flame and the burning rate was determined.
Two parallel flammability tests were performed. In these preliminary tests the test material propagated burning over a length of 200 mm in more than 4 minutes (507 and 563 sec). The tests were negative.
The test material is not flammable in the conditions of this test.

- non flammable
Additional information
Flammability (solids)
In the key study (Sárvári, 2012g) the flammability of the test material was determined in a study performed under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.10.
Flammability (pyrophoricity and contact with water)
In accordance with Section 2 of Annex XI of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), it is considered justified to omit the Flammability (Contact with Water) and the Flammability (Pyrophoric Properties) studies (both further required in Section 7.10), as there is no evidence based upon chemical structure nor experience in handling, that the substance will either spontaneously ignite in air at room temperature or exhibit flammable properties in contact with water.
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to the criteria outlined in Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification for flammability.
