Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2009-12-16
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
thermal analysis
Remarks:
DSC_TG
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
>= 315 - <= 690 °C

Two DSC-runs in alumina crucibles with a hole showed the following effects:

1. Endothermic effect due to the evaporation of H2O in the temperature range up to 120 °C (weight loss of approximately 39.61 wt-%).

2. Endothermic effect due to the decomposition of 2 NH4V3O8 to 2NH3(g)+ H2O(g) + 3V2O5(s) in the temperature range of 300 – 380 °C with an onset temperature of 315.2 °C and a weight loss of approximately 5.04 wt-%.

3. Endothermic effect due to the melting of V2O5 in the temperature range of approximately 640 – 690 °C with an onset temperature of 666.7 °C, which determines also the melting point of V2O5.

Conclusions:
According to the measured onset temperature, decomposition of the test substance started at 315 °C.

Description of key information

The decomposition of the ammonium trivanadium octaoxide starts at 315 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the study by Hochenhofer (2009), two DSC-runs in alumina crucibles with a hole showed the following effects: 1. According to the measured onset temperature, decomposition of the test substance started at 315 °C.
