Principles of method if other than guideline:
A test substance is considered highly flammable, when it ignites spontaneously when coming into contact with water or damp air, or evolves flammable gas at a rate > 1 I/kg of the test substance per hour.

The structure of the test substance does not contain groups that might lead to the evolution of a dangerous amount of flammable gas when coming into contact with water or damp air. No metals, transition metals, boron or silicon are present. The impurities, present for :s; 0.3% in the test substance, were not taken into account but it is not to be expected that these have any influence.

Statement on Flammability in contact with water:

The structures of the test substance do not contain groups that might lead to the evolution of a dangerous amount of flammable gas when coming into contact with water or damp air. No metals, transition metals, boron or silicon are present.

In conclusion, the test substance is not highly flammable in contact with water or damp air.

Interpretation of results:

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study

Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test substance pile. The test substance melted, emitted yellow sparks, burned with a yellow/bleu flame and turned into a charred residue. Grey fume was also observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished immediately and no propagate combustion was observed.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of the test substance. No propagate combustion of the test substance along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. Bases on this, the test substance was not considered as highly flammable.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Remarks:
Pyrophoric liquids/solids (migrated from section 'Flammability')
Type of information:
calculation (if not (Q)SAR)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
05 May - 15 October 2008
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.13 (Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks:
Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state (migrated information).
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)

Statement on Pyrophoric properties:

The molecular structure of the test substance does not contain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air. Furthermore, experience in handling during the flammability test shows that the test substance does not ignite spontaneously after coming in contact with air at room temperature.

In conclusion, the test substance is non-pyrophoric.
