- Details on results:
- The solubility of 3-PHENOXY-2-HYDROXYPROPYL METHACRYLATE (PHPM) in water was determined from the measured concentrations of the test item in the filtrated and extracted test solutions.
Six flasks were prepared (1A – 1C and 2 – 4); the flasks 1A – 1C were used during an equilibration time. Because of a difference of less than 15 % in the concentrations on days 2 and 3 and no upward tendency, the test was finished on day 3. The flasks 2 – 4 were sampled in the same way at the end of the test.
The water solubility of the test item was calculated as a mean value of all flasks as 1.687 ± 0.053 g/L with a relative standard deviation of 3.1 %.
No observations arousing doubts concerning the accuracy of the results and the validity of the study were made.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- The water solubility of the test item was calculated as a mean value of all flasks as 1.687 ±
0.053 g/L with a relative standard deviation of 3.1 %. - Executive summary:
The solubility of the test item 3-PHENOXY-2-HYDROXYPROPYL METHACRYLATE (PHPM) in water was determined by measurement of the test item concentration in the filtrated and extracted test solutions using GC/MS.
The preliminary test which is described in the guideline was not performed as the solubility of the test item was estimated during validation of the analytical method as approximately
1800 mg/L. For test items with water solubility above 10 mg/L, the flask method was used.
The test item was stirred in water instead of shaken in order to avoid a formation of an emulsion.
For the test, 10 g/L test item were used to prepare a saturated solution as the water solubility
estimated during validation of the analytical method was 1800 g/L (in the guideline, fivefold saturation is proposed).
No Tyndall effect (i.e. a laser beam was not scattered when transmitted through the liquid) could be observed indicating that no colloidally dispersed micelles are present.
The water solubility of the test item was calculated as a mean value of all flasks:
1.687 ± 0.053 g/L at 20.5 °C and pH 4.52 – 4.57
= 1.687 ± 0.053 kg/m3 (SI units)(mean value ± standard deviation of six individual flasks)
