Light Microscopy

The optically investigation of the test item with different magnifications has been investigated. For a better visualization a 10x10 grid with 100 µm squares was used. At 5x and 20x magnifications bigger agglomerates can be observed. Examining the 50x magnification, the test item consists of crystalline particles.

Particle size distribution

Two test series of 3 measurements each were performed with the fine fraction of the test item.

Test series 1:

Percentile  Particle size (µm)  Standard deviation
 D10 2.3 0.07
 D50 12.1 0.39
 D90 48.0 3.50

Test series 2:

Percentile  Particle size (µm)  Standard deviation
 D10 2.4 0.08
 D50 12.3 0.49
 D90 62.2 8.34

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The test item 4-NPP, di-TRIS (CAS no. 68189-42-4) has a median particle size of D50 = 12.2 µm, which was determined by laser diffraction measurement according to OECD Test Guideline 110 (1981), ISO 13320 (2009) and EPA OCSPP Test Guideline OPPTS 830.7520 (1996).
